Marginalized Women to Receive Identity Card and Human Rights in Egypt
A new campaign with the name of “Your ID – Your Rights” set up in Egypt with the help of numerous government and civil organization inside the country. Its combined effort to reduce the issue that is facing two million national identity cards to Egypt’s marginalized women.
According to latest report approximately 4 million women in country who cannot vote or receive public services in Egypt. Without ID a woman can’t be able to own land. She can buy or sell her assets even inherit her deceased family members. Also she is unable to access the various public services, like right to vote, healthcare, education etc. The aim of this campaign to launched to give all women with national ID cards.
Further Egypt’s online community is beginning to push this campaign to resolve this issue. Organizers are also working to raise the awareness about women who have fallen between cracks without any Identity.
The three month program duration will give women in kalibeya governorate where 40,000 women have no National Identity Card, opportunity to get ID card without any payment.
This campaign launch is supported by the UNDP along with Egypt’s MSAD – Ministry of State for Administrative Development, UN Women (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women), the SFD – Social Fund for Development and the MoFA – Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
