Nadine Labaki, a Dircetor and Actress from Lebanon

Born in February 18, 1974, Nadine Labaki is a Lebanese  actress and director. She is one of the well known directors in the Arabic music video industry. Nadine is usually credited for bringing artists into the scene. n 2007, Labaki co-wrote, directed, and starred in her feature-film debut, Caramel, which became an international sensation at film festivals and went on to achieve box office success. It showcases a Beirut  that most aren’t familiar with. Rather than tackle political and religious issues which have plagued Lebanon, she presents a romantic comedy that deals with five Beirut women who gather at a beauty salon and deal with love,  tradition, disappointment, and everyday ups and downs.

Miss Egypt Universe 2010 – Donia Hamed

Donia Hamed a dazzling 22 year old that is currently studying finance in the American University of Sharga (AUS) won the title of Miss Egypt Universe 2010. She was crowned by Elham Wagdi, Miss Egypt Universe 2009. Donia Hamed is 5′10″ tall, and will compete at Miss Universe 2010 beauty pageant to be held in Las Vegas, USA on August 23.

Muslim employee: Disney banned her head scarf

A Muslim woman who works as a hostess at a Disneyland restaurant alleged Wednesday the theme park would not allow her to appear in front of customers while wearing her head scarf.

Imane Boudlal, 26, appeared outside the resort’s Grand Californian Hotel after filing a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

She said when she wore the hijab to work Sunday, her supervisors told her to remove it, work where customers couldn’t see her, or go home. (more…)

Ramadan series fever hits Arab families

With the start of every Ramadan many Arab families start planning their time around the Ramadan TV series. Arabic TV channels compete to attract the largest number of viewers by showing the best TV series available. TV Channels began advertising these series two months before Ramadan. The streets and malls were plastered with huge ads for big-budget Ramadan shows.

Many years ago, Egyptian TV series dominated the field. In the past few years, Syrian drama, with many historical series showing the life of old Syrian society, holding sway. One of the best TV Series to be aired in the past four years is Bab Al-Hara. This year, Bab Al-Hara will enter its final season. (more…)
